The Tale of Two Services

Seldom, do you find such large differences between two services as I did with AT&T and Comcast. I had contracted with AT&T for DSL service with a fixed IP address and had been using it successfully for several years as a web server. An AT&T representative knocked on my door and sold me on a faster service for a nominal charge but I had to replace the modem. The problems began after I installed the new modem. After calling customer service I was told that they could not help me, I would have to purchase a special contract from another division for service.

OK -- Did That, service contract for one year. Technician told me that I couldn't do what I wanted with that modem. I returned the modem, installed the old one and got back on line.

Asked AT&T to refund my money for the one years service because I felt the first level technician should have been able to give me the answer and no future service was required on that device. No deal, I ended up having to pay the full contract price to be told that AT&T had sold me a modem that wouldn't work.

I already had Comcast supplying my cable TV and had been pleased with the service. I found that combining telephone, cable, and internet (with fixed IP address) I could save about $100 a month over the combination that I was using with AT&T. The installation was scheduled within the week and except for the web service activity was in operation immediately.

However, one call to the Comcast service department, and the technician was able to set up my modem remotely to do what I wanted to do.

I have found Comcast to be customer oriented, courteous, and willing to work with me to solve problems. I have no problems recommending them to my customers as a service.
